In honor of my great Uncle Cory, i wanted to delve a little deeper into the history of
labor unions in chicago after finding out some inequities my uncle had been served
after working decades on the railroads. through my research I learned about
Chicago’s pullman porters . One hundred years ago, Chicago's Pullman porters who
worked on the historic railway here helped form the first all-Black labor union in
the U.S. The union was led by formerly enslaved black men like Phillip Randolph and
Milton P. Webster. due to these men’s sacrifice should be celebrated and learned
about. I want to learn more about it’s affects later on and why it was pushed
almost out of existence.
